Mercy Memorial Hospital System to Open Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Mercy Memorial Hospital System in Monroe, Mich., plans to launch an emergency medicine residency program next summer, according to a Bedford Now report.

The residency program was recently approved by the American Osteopathic Association's Program and Trainee Review Council, according to the report. The first session will begin July 1, 2014.

Up to six residents can be accepted each year, putting the program's overall capacity at 24 residents.

"Our vision for this program is clear and simple — we are committed to developing skilled emergency medicine physicians whom I would trust to care for myself or my family in the most critical of circumstances," John Kasper, DO, the program's director, told Bedford Now.
