Mercy Health inks deal with Michigan Medicine to improve cardiac care

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Mercy Health and Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine, formerly the University of Michigan Health System, signed a professional services agreement to elevate the level of cardiac care available at Mercy Health, according to MiBiz.

Under the agreement, two cardiothoracic surgeons from Mercy Health will join the university medical school’s faculty. Richard Downey, MD, and Nabeel El-amir, MD, will continue their employment at Mercy Health Muskegon (Mich.) while teaching.

The arrangement will allow Mercy Health surgeons access to best practices, protocols and case consultations with physicians and surgeons at Michigan Medicine. Mercy Health physicians will also have access to faculty research and clinical trials in cardiac care.

The financial terms of the partnership, if any, were not disclosed.
