Dubbed Medscape Physician Business Academy, the free online program was designed by health business experts, many of whom are also physicians.
“As physicians, we understand the challenges — and the cost —of not providing solutions,” Cheryl Pegus, MD, professor of medicine and population health at NYU Langone Medical Center and a Medscape Academy faculty member, said in a statement. “As faculty, we designed a program for physicians along with our business colleagues that we believe can help turn the situation around and make a difference in physicians’ lives.”
The Academy is designed to be a “realistic time commitment” that offers “courses that are relevant to the business aspects of medicine — including managing revenue, reimbursement, legal issues, new payment models, and business strategy and practice management,” Dr. Pegus said in a statement. Course topics range from payer negotiations to EHRs to accounting.
