MEDNAX adds anesthesiology practice in Georgia: 3 things to know

National medical group MEDNAX has acquired Anesthesia Associates of Savannah (Ga.) and Lighthouse Anesthesia, collectively known as Lighthouse Anesthesia, a private physician group practice also based in Savannah.

Here are three things to know about the deal.

1. With the transaction, MEDNAX adds Lighthouse Anesthesia, which has been providing anesthesia care in Southeast Georgia for more than 60 years. The practice employs 102 full-time clinicians who provide services to St. Joseph's/Candler, a 714-bed health system in Savannah, Effingham Hospital and Care Center in Springfield, Ga., and 11 ambulatory surgery centers throughout Georgia and North Carolina.

2. The acquisition adds to the services MEDNAX provides in Georgia across multiple specialties such as anesthesia, obstetric, maternal-fetal, neonatal and hearing screen services, officials said.

3. The deal was a cash transaction, and it is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings, according to a news release. Other terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
