Through the clinical partnership, Mayfield Brain & Spine neurosurgeons will provide dedicated, coordinated care at Mercy Health hospitals in the Greater Cincinnati area, allowing these hospitals to admit patients with lower severity neurological needs. Cincinnati-based The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health will serve as the center of excellence for neurosurgery and it will be staffed 24/7 with a Mayfield neurosurgeon to provide immediate care to medium-level-severity brain and spine care to Mercy Health patients.
“This new clinical partnership allows us to hardwire patient treatment protocols to ensure a consistent, system-wide approach for the assessment and disposition of brain and spine patients at Mercy Health’s Cincinnati-area hospitals,” Mike Garfield, interim president and CEO of Mercy Health – Cincinnati, said in a statement. “Our goal with partnerships such as this one is to improve quality by developing and implementing systems of care that remove variation. This ensures that all patients benefit from the protocols developed by this clinical team no matter the patient’s condition or location of treatment.”
For the most severe neurological cases, the health system says it will continue to work with other local health systems.
