They spend their time on the following hobbies, according to an AMA Insurance survey of nearly 5,000 physicians ages 30 to 69.
- Physicians of all ages like to exercise. Running or jogging were most popular among the younger set: about 50 percent of respondents under age 40 run or jog, the most popular types of exercise in that age group.
- Running and jogging were slightly less popular among physicians aged 40 to 59 (36 percent), who also enjoy bicycling (35 percent) and camping or hiking (24 percent).
- Roughly 50 percent of physicians older than 60 walk to stay healthy.
- Most physicians (58 percent) are well-read; the most respondents in all age groups ranked avid book reading as a regular hobby.
- 46 percent are interested gourmet cooking.
- 46 percent enjoy watching cable TV and 41 percent watch TV sports.
- More physicians own dogs (39 percent) than cats (20 percent).
