Decomposing body of Keck School of Medicine graduate student discovered in USC dorm room

Police discovered the decomposing body of Jacob Kelley, 24, in a Los Angeles-based USC Health Sciences Campus dorm room Aug. 23, the Los Angeles Times reports.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County coroner's office told the publication a maintenance worker discovered Mr. Kelley's body in a single-bed dorm room around 2:20 p.m. Police said they believe Mr. Kelley died roughly seven days prior to the discovery of his body, according to the Daily Trojan.

The Keck School of Medicine of USC Dean Rohit Varma, MD, identified Mr. Kelley as a first-year master's student in medical physiology in a letter to the campus community Aug. 24.

It is unclear how Mr. Kelley died. However, officials said he appeared to have died of natural causes. An autopsy is reportedly pending.
