The program will add eight new residents each year for a total of 24 residents in three years. Students will begin their training at Bremerton, Wash.-based Harrison Medical Center and transition to the institution’s new outpatient clinic in 2020.

CHI Franciscan received more than 1,100 applications for the eight residency spots in the three-year program. Jacob Van Fleet, MD, said he selected CHI Franciscan’s family medicine residency program because he was excited by faculty members’ passion for their work.

“For me, [the program] highlights the culture of family medicine and the types of relationships I want to build with my patients over a lifetime,” he said.
