“As physicians, we are all members of the local medical community and will adhere to an evidence-based approach and deliver care as a team, with transparency and mutual respect for all involved,” BID-Plymouth Medical Staff President Anit Patel, MD, said in the Monday hospital statement announcing the compact. “Achieving a vision of high-quality, patient-centered care requires a set of clearly defined expectations that are mutually beneficial for both physicians and administration.”

The agreement is the result of a year of negotiations, and it outlines the expectations for the hospital and the physicians, as well as mutual objectives. It was created in response to the changing needs of the healthcare industry — which now require more cooperation, communication and coordination. The goal of the compact was to create a spirit of collaboration between the two groups and an aligned vision, according to the hospital statement.
