American physician dies after falling off mountain in Canada

New York City native Dr. Shreyas Roy died after falling into a ravine while hiking Mount Royal in Montreal, Canada, July 23. He was 38 years old, according to NewYorkUpstate.com.

Dr. Roy was hiking with his girlfriend when he lost his footing and fell off of a cliff. Firefighters found him about 30 feet below in a ravine where he reportedly suffered a heart attack, according to the report.

He was later pronounced dead at an undisclosed Canadian hospital.

Dr. Roy received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal in 2006. He recently finished a pediatric surgery fellowship at Montreal-based Sainte-Justine Hospital.

Prior to his death, Dr. Roy was scheduled to begin work as an attending surgeon of pediatric hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplants at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ottawa, according his obituary published in the Montreal Gazette.
