All 52 Maryland Patient-Centered Homes Get NCQA Approval

Maryland's Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown announced all 52 patient-centered medical homes registered in the state received the stamp of approval needed from the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

The state's PCMHs program is "helping to enhance the quality of health care and reduce costs by providing physicians with responsible incentives to spend more time with patients, coordinate care and promote prevention and wellness," Lt. Gov. Brown said in a statement.

To be recognized as a PCMH by the NCQA, practices need to provide access during expanded office hours, use data to identify and manage patient populations, enhance care management through evidence-based guidelines, support a self-care and family care process for patients, track referrals and follow-ups and use data to manage ongoing quality improvement. Specifics are listed on NCQA's website.
