Columbia, Md.-based MedStar Health announced Tuesday the addition of Hollywood, Md.-based multispecialty medical practice Shah Associates, effective April 1.
Upon joining Maryland's largest nonprofit healthcare system, Shah Associates was renamed MedStar Shah Medical Group. The 85-provider practice, which has 14 locations in southern Maryland, will now be able to offer patients expanded access to both community-based care and specialty services.
"This is a natural outgrowth of our long-standing relationship and common vision. The resources that a health system such as MedStar brings — depth and breadth of services plus expanded access to clinical trials, education and innovation — are a real benefit for communities and the physicians who care for them," Vinod Shah, MD, president of the medical group, said in a statement. The partnership will emphasize screenings, patient education and disease management to help improve the health of the community.
MedStar Shah Medical Group patients can continue to seek care at current office locations.
