There are 333,833 female physicians in the U.S., according to March 2018 data from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

1. California: 38,140
2. New York: 33,066
3. Texas: 21,072
4. Pennsylvania: 17,015
5. Florida: 16,221
6. Illinois: 15,671
7. Massachusetts: 14,316
8. Ohio: 14,032
9. Michigan: 12,990

Here are the 10 states with the lowest number of professionally active female physicians:

1. Wyoming: 315
2. South Dakota: 564
3. North Dakota: 569
4. Montana: 635
5. Alaska: 677
