10 states with the most and fewest cardiologists

Of the 30,271 cardiologists practicing in the United States, 3,003 of them practice in California. On the other end of the spectrum, Wyoming only has 18 licensed cardiologists, the fewest of any state in the nation.

The following lists are based on Redi-Data Inc. licensing information gathered in April 2017, reported by Kaiser Family Foundation.

The 10 states with the most cardiologists are:

1. California: 3,003
2. New York: 2,858
3. Florida: 2,004
4. Texas: 1,938
5. Pennsylvania: 1,779
6. Massachusetts: 1,424
7. Ohio: 1,346
8. Illinois: 1,289
9. New Jersey: 1,131
10. Michigan: 978

Here are 10 states with the fewest cardiologists:

1. Wyoming: 18
2. North Dakota: 34
3. Alaska: 36
4. Idaho: 48
5. South Dakota: 52
6. Montana: 54
