The move will allow the hospital to transition to a new care delivery model, which focuses on RNs assisted by nursing assistants.
LPNs at Schuylkill will be given the opportunity to work as nurses aids, with a salary cut, or gain further education to become an RN, according to the report.
The care model has not yet been implemented at Schuylkill’s East Norwegian Street location.
The decision to layoff LPNs seems to be an increasing trend. Last year, a number of Michigan hospitals laid off LPNs in order to hire additional RNs.
