William W. Backus Hospital, Center for Hospice Care partner for palliative care

William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn., partnered with The Center for Hospice Care in Norwich to establish a palliative care program, according to a report by The Day.

The program will include staff from the hospice as well as the hospital, and it offers advanced management of pain and symptoms for patients confronting illnesses that severely affect their quality of life.

The new program has been piloted for two months with 54 patients, said James O’Dea, PhD, regional director of cancer services for Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare, the parent company of Backus, according to the report.
