Some specialties provide a better return than others, and according to Naya Kehayes, managing principal and CEO of Eveia Health Consulting and Management, spine is one of the most attractive specialties for both hospital and independent ASCs.
She says spine and orthopedic spine are growing in the outpatient setting because the procedures are becoming more palatable for health insurer reimbursements. “Some payors are even open to the potential of surgery centers discharging bigger spine cases to skilled nursing facilities,” Ms. Kehayes says.
