Which colleges produce the most CEOs?

Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., has the largest share of alumni who later become CEOs at large companies, according to an Aug. 4 LinkedIn News post.

The ranking used LinkedIn data to determine which colleges produce the largest share of alumni who are CEOs at companies with more than 1,000 employees. 

The colleges included those affiliated with academic health systems, including Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Medicine, Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth Health, and Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System.

Healthcare-specific data was not available, but the dataset did include healthcare companies, a LinkedIn News spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.

Here are the 10 U.S. colleges that produce the most CEOs, per LinkedIn News:

1. Harvard University (Cambridge, Mass.)

2. Princeton (N.J.) University

3. Stanford (Calif.) University

4. Dartmouth College (Hanover, N.H.)

5. Duke University (Durham, N.C.)

6. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge)

7. University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)

8. Yale University (New Haven, Conn.)

9. Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.)

10. Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tenn.)
