Among the key components of the plan are to:
- Establish a Public Health Emergency Fund at HHS
- Create a Global Health Security Corps of physicians and scientists who can help intervene when outbreaks occur in foreign countries in conflict
- Reestablish a director for global health security and biodefense in the White House
- Expand funding for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which provides aid for people with HIV/AIDS abroad
- Invest $100 billion in efforts to end the opioid epidemic, to help reduce transmission of communicable diseases
The infectious disease outbreak plan also leverages Ms. Warren’s other policy proposals, like “Medicare for All,” and those related to climate change.
