This new policy ramps up an already existing smoking policy that the health system has had in place since 2009. Under the older policy, employees are not allowed to smoke on any hospital campuses. Current employees who smoke will not be affected by the new policy addition, and smoking cessation support will continue to be offered.
Meanwhile, UCLA Health System and UCLA Health Sciences will implement a policy also establishing a completely smoke-free environment. That policy, which goes into effect today, will apply to all indoor and outdoor areas of the hospitals, health sciences campuses and research facilities.
