Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association elects leaders: 9 things to know

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association has elected a slate of officers to its board of directors.

Here are nine things to know about the leaders.

Mary N. Mannix, MSN, BSN, RN, president and CEO of Fishersville, Va.-based Augusta Health, was elected as chairwoman.

1. Ms. Mannix previously served as vice chairwoman of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association board.

2. As CEO of Augusta Health, Ms. Mannix has led a period of growth in service, quality, and physician and employee engagement, according to a news release. Along with its subsidiary, Augusta Medical Group, the organization is the largest employer in its region.

3. She previously served on the American Hospital Association's Regional Policy Board Three.

Michael V. Gentry, senior vice president and COO of Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare, was elected as vice chairman.

4. At Sentara, Mr. Gentry is responsible for the overall operations of Sentara provider divisions, including 12 hospitals, Sentara Life Care Corporation and Sentara Enterprises.

5. Prior to joining Sentara, he was president and CEO of the Florida Hospital Memorial System in Ormond Beach.

6. Mr. Gentry also previously spent 10 years with Park Ridge Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C., the last five of which he served as president and CEO.

Mark H. Merrill, president and CEO of Winchester, Va.-based Valley Health System, was elected as secretary-treasurer.

7. Mr. Merrill leads Valley Health System, which operates six hospitals, three urgent care facilities, more than 30 physician practices and a medical transport service.

8. Prior to joining Valley Health System, he was president of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, formerly Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.

9. He also previously was executive vice president of Texas Health Resources in Arlington and co-chairman of THR's EHR implementation committee.
