VA shuffles staff: 4 changes after Robert Wilkie’s appointment

Weeks after Robert Wilkie took the helm of the Veterans Affairs Department as its secretary in July, he is reorganizing the agency’s leadership team, the Politico Morning eHealth newsletter reports.

Here are the four latest leadership changes at the VA:

1. Chief of Staff Peter O’Rourke, who served as acting VA secretary prior to Mr. Wilkie’s appointment, will move into a senior advisor role.

2. Pamela Powers, a nearly 30-year U.S. Air Force veteran and former chief of staff to the under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness, will take over for Mr. O’Rourke as VA chief of staff.

3. Chris Syrek, the VA’s former executive director of state and local government affairs, will serve as the deputy chief of staff.

4. Acting VA Chief of Staff Jacquelyn Hayes-Byrd will now serve as the acting assistant secretary for human resources and administration.
