UPMC leader now in charge of 18 hospitals

David Gibbons, RN, president of Erie, Pa.-based UPMC Hamot, is now set to oversee 18 hospitals within the Pittsburgh-based system, according to a June 6 Go Erie report.

Mr. Gibbons will become regional president for the system’s Health Services Division, which will take his current remit of overseeing 11 hospitals to 18 as he takes on responsibility for an additional regional division. Mr. Gibbons will now be in charge of three of the five UPMC regional divisions in the 40-hospital system, the report said.

UPMC will undergo a national search to replace Mr. Gibbons at UPMC Hamot, where he will remain president during the transition which is expected to take six months.
