The hospital committed the funds to the Erie Downtown Development Corp., which was founded in September to revitalize the neighborhood, with a goal of raising between $25 million and $40 million. So far they have raised $16.5 million.

“We spend a lot of time and effort recruiting physicians and staff to work at the hospital,” Hamot President David Gibbons, who sits on the EDDC board, told GoErie.com. “We want to increase our success by having thriving businesses and robust housing in our neighborhood.”
