The company, which also operates mental-health facilities and recently acquired Psychiatric Solutions, is experiencing strong performance in that sector, said Mr. Filton.
According to Mr. Filton, at UHS’ acute-care facilities, volumes have softened and admissions of commercially insured patients has declined, driven by high unemployment and decreased demand for elective care.
UHS had hoped for same-facility revenue growth of 3-3.5 percent during 2010, but “probably finished 2010 with same-facility growth of 2.5 percent,” according to the report.
