Both board members said they thought the fee increase was ill-advised given the fragile economy and the fact that the hospital is projecting its biggest-ever profit — $45 million — for fiscal 2010, according to the report.
The hospital had faced financial difficulties during the past two years and in 2009 cut employee salaries, suspended merit pay and suspended paid personal leave, according to the report. The cuts have since been reversed.
