Trump renews promise to curb rising drug prices

President Donald Trump renewed his promise to combat skyrocketing drug prices during a press conference Monday, according to The Hill.

During the press conference, President Trump attacked drugmakers calling drug pricing "very unfair," because the U.S. pays significantly more than other countries for the same drugs.

"We are going to get prescription drug prices way down because the world is taking advantage of us," President Trump said, according to The Hill. "The same exact pill from the same company, same box, same everything, is a tiny fraction of what it costs in the U.S."

In June, officials from the Trump administration leaked a drafted executive order that would have rolled back regulatory hurdles for the pharmaceutical industry. However, no official action was ever taken. The administration never confirmed if the executive order was authentic.

President Trump has openly criticized pharmaceutical companies in the past, saying they are "getting away with murder" revealing his opinion that regulatory changes are necessary.
