Trump 'in very good health,' new physician says

President Donald Trump underwent his annual physical appointment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., on Feb. 8, NBC 5 DFW reports.

Five things to know:

1. Navy veteran Sean Conley, DO, was named physician to the president in March 2018 and conducted Mr. Trump's physical.

2. Dr. Conley became the official White House physician after Mr. Trump nominated his predecessor, Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, MD, to serve as chief of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in early 2018. Dr. Jackson withdrew his nomination after allegations of professional misconduct surfaced. The Pentagon is investigating the allegations.

3. While the exam is not mandatory, officeholders typically schedule it and release the results to assure the public they are fit for office. Dr. Jackson said during a press conference after Mr. Trump's first physical that the exam lasted more than four hours.

4. Despite the ongoing investigation, Mr. Trump promoted Dr. Jackson to serve as assistant to the president and chief medical adviser earlier this month. In his new roles, Dr. Jackson will provide input on a range of national health issues, including the federal government's handling of the opioid crisis and health issues at the U.S.-Mexico border.

5. In a Feb. 8 memo to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, Dr. Conley said he and a panel of 11 board-certified specialists evaluated Mr. Trump for four hours and found the president to be in "very good health" and that he anticipates "he will remain so for the duration of his presidency, and beyond." CNN's chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta tweeted a copy of the memo to on Feb. 6.
