Trump: If AHCA doesn't pass, let ACA fail and blame the Democrats

President Donald Trump said in an Oval Office meeting with leaders of conservative groups that if the American Health Care Act doesn't pass, he'll allow the ACA to fail and point the blame at Democrats, reports CNN.

President Trump reportedly rebuked the groups, including the Club for Growth, the Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, FreedomWorks and the Tea Party Patriots, for dubbing the proposed ACA replacement plan "Obamacare Lite."

"You are helping the other side," he told the group leaders, according to CNN.

In a bid to sell the leaders on the AHCA, President Trump said, "This is going to be great. You're going to make it even greater," according to the report. He added, "I'm going to work hard to get it done."

President Trump told attendees he was confident the plan will pass the House and disclosed his strategy for making sure it passes the Senate: campaign aggressively in red states with Democrats that are up for reelection, according to the report.

"Trump said he will have football stadium events in states where he won by 10-12 points and he is going to dare people to vote against him," an unnamed source told CNN.

Also in attendance at the meeting was White House senior advisers Steve Bannon, Reince Preibus, Kellyanne Conway and Marc Short, according to CNN.
