Trump attacks Democrats over universal healthcare

President Donald Trump criticized Congressional Democrats Monday for pursuing universal healthcare legislation amid healthcare-related protests in the U.K., which employs a single-payer system.

"The Democrats are pushing for Universal HealthCare while thousands of people are marching in the U.K. because their U system is going broke and not working. Dems want to greatly raise taxes for really bad and non-personal medical care. No thanks!" President Trump tweeted.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., proposed a Medicare-for-all bill in September, which has garnered the support of influential legislators such as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

In London, recent protests have been aimed at providing more funding for the nation's National Health Service, which is facing a shortage of physicians and beds, but a rise in patient need. British Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Jeremy Hunt criticized the American healthcare system in response to President Trump's remarks.

"I may disagree with claims made on that march but not ONE of them wants to live in a system where 28m people have no cover. NHS may have challenges but I'm proud to be from the country that invented universal coverage — where all get care no matter the size of their bank balance," Mr. Hunt tweeted Monday.
