Partnerships and affiliations ranked high among the current strategic priorities of independent hospitals and small health systems, whereas large health systems ranked physician alignment and engagement highest, according to a recent survey conducted by Hospital 100.

The 2015 National Hospital Leadership Survey was conducted in January and includes responses from more than 240 healthcare executives from all across the country.

Highlighted below are the strategic priorities executives ranked highest among their current initiatives, listed by organization type.

Independent hospitals

Small systems (up to 5 hospitals)

  • Physician alignment and engagement
  • Population health growth
  • Health IT, including ICD-10

Large systems (5 or more hospitals)

  • Physician alignment and engagement
  • Cost containment and management
  • Patient engagement; patient experience
  • Efficiency, quality and process improvement
  • Partnership and affiliation

Population health management and consumerism also ranked high among the current priorities of executives at large systems.
