'The answers to problems in business come through trial and error,' says OhioHealth System Director Maresa Campbell

In this special Speaker Series, Becker's Healthcare caught up with Maresa Campbell, systems director of utilization review and language services at OhioHealth in Columbus, Ohio.

Ms. Campbell will speak during the Becker's Hospital Review 4th Annual Health IT + Revenue Cycle Conference on "Implementing a Tool that Utilizes Advanced Data Analytics to Translate Information from our EMR to Automatically Secure Prior Authorizations," at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19. Learn more about the event and register to attend in Chicago.

Question: What do you see as the most vulnerable part of a hospital's business?

Maresa Campbell: Completing services without the correct and valid authorization in place.  Managed care payers are really adding layers to the authorization process, and providers need to be up to the challenge of obtaining authorization prior to care.

Q: Can you share your best advice for motivating your teams?

MC: The answers to problems in business come through trial and error.  Having something fail is as important as [having something succeed].  The team needs to work and think about how the business operates so that solutions can be deployed that are impactful.

Q: What's the best thing you've read lately?

MC: The War that Saved My Life [by] Kimberly Brubaker Bradley  It is a novel about a young girl during World War II and the struggles she experiences through war, life circumstances and attempting to understand and accept those around her and in the world.
