Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation applied to close the hospital and merged most of its services with Touchette Regional Hospital, which it also owns, in 2008. Since then, Kendall Hall Regional’s services were restricted to emergency care and mental health. According to the news report, Kenneth Hall Regional faced $5.5 million in losses every year.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the foundation’s closure application last month, and the foundation plans to add 12 mental health beds to Touchette and open an urgent-care facility.
