Atlanta Medical Center — a 460-bed academic medical center in the city — would consolidate with South Fulton Medical Center — a 338-bed community hospital in East Point, Ga. The new entity would be called Atlanta Medical Center-South Campus. The strategy is aimed to tidy up South Fulton’s finances, according to the report.
“We have been looking for ways to improve the hospital’s financial picture, especially in light of the continued changes in the healthcare environment,” South Fulton CEO James Clements said in the report. “Consolidating our operations with those of AMC will enable us to achieve financial and operational efficiencies.”
