Hospital employees were set to receive notification letters last week. United University Professions, a union representing academic faculty, said it expects 54 members to lose their jobs, according to the report.
Local 1199 Service Employees International Union received a 30-day layoff notice from the hospital, but a union official was unable to provide further information on how many employees or what positions will be affected.
SUNY-Downstate officials declined to comment on the layoff letter, according to the report.
