Nurses from both hospitals joined the National Nurses Organizing Committee-Florida, an affiliate of National Nurses United. Nurses at three other HCA hospitals in Florida are expected to vote on unionization later this week.
The decision to unionize could drive up nurse wages in the area, since non-unionized hospitals will likely increase wages to compete with union pay, according to the report.
