The subsidiary shutdowns, which will go into effect this fall, are a response to state budget cuts that represent a $19 million loss over the next two years for St. Joseph. Recently, St. Joseph and other hospitals joined together in a lawsuit against the state’s budget cuts.

According to the report, the subsidiary shutdowns are just the first phase of job cuts at the hospital. Officials declined to share details on which hospital department could be cut next.
