Pitt County Memorial Hospital will become UHS Medical Center, effective Oct. 1, to more closely align with University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina and reflect its teaching status. UHS of Eastern Carolina, for its part, will also be shortening its name to simply UHS.
County officials are concerned that the county’s name was dropped since local taxpayers helped bring the hospital to fruition. Local veterans are also concerned “memorial” has been lost, arguing it honors World War II veterans, according to the report.
