Tenet attributed the closure to “continued reimbursement decreases for this program that make it difficult for smaller hospitals with lower volumes to operate this service line,” the company said in a statement.
SFMC was purchased by Tenet in 2001 after it entered bankruptcy. In February, the Dallas-based hospital operator announced it would consolidate SFMC with Atlanta Medical Center and would eventually rename the hospital Atlanta Medical Center-South Campus.
