Democratic party leadership has previously been hesitant to fully embrace a single-payer system, but an increasingly vocal faction of liberals, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., has roused public support for the idea.

Medicare is on the table, buy-in to Medicaid is on the table. On the broader issues, we’ll start examining them once we stabilize the system,” said Mr. Schumer.
Senate Republicans have had trouble drumming up support for their own healthcare bills in recent weeks, and though their healthcare efforts seem to have stalled, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., hopes to move forward with a vote later this week.
