Single-payer healthcare bill passes New York Assembly, stalls in Senate

The New York State Assembly passed a bill endorsing universal healthcare, but the Senate is not expected to consider the bill before this year’s legislative session ends, according to Press Connects.

The proposal would allow all New York residents to enroll in healthcare plans funded by state and local money that goes to Medicaid and other healthcare programs.

This is the fourth year in a row the Democratic-led Assembly has passed the largely symbolic measure, as it has almost no chance of passing the Republican-led Senate.
