Sheryl Sandberg to publish book on resilience in 2017

Following the wild success of her 2013 book Lean In, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg plans to release another book next year, according to Recode.

The book, which is tentatively called Option B, will not be a follow-up to the women's leadership-focused Lean In, which Ms. Sandberg co-wrote with Nell Scovell. Instead, this new book — which is Ms. Sandberg is co-authoring with Adam Grant, PhD — will highlight grief, healing and resilience during life's tragedies, from job losses to deaths.

Ms. Sandberg is no stranger to grief. Her husband Dave Goldberg, the former CEO of SurveyMonkey, died suddenly in May 2015. Since his death, Ms. Sandberg has openly expressed her grief through Facebook posts and while delivering UC Berkeley's 2016 commencement speech.

The potential title for the book — Option B — comes from an incident with a family friend, which she wrote about in a Facebook post. "I was talking to one of these friends about a father-child activity that Dave is not here to do," Ms. Sandberg wrote. "We came up with a plan to fill in for Dave. I cried to him, 'But I want Dave. I want option A.' He put his arm around me and said, 'Option A is not available. So let's just kick the shit out of option B.'"
