Sen. Collins: I received 'ironclad' commitment tax bill will not cut Medicare or Medicaid

Though pay-as-you-go budgetary rules may cut $25 billion from Medicare if the Republican tax bill adds to the national deficit, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she received an "ironclad" commitment that the cuts will not go into effect, she said on ' Meet the Press Sunday.

Ms. Collins voted for the bill, which passed though the Senate 51 votes to 49, though she says there is no guarantee she will support the bill once it comes out of conference committee between the Senate and House.

The bill contains a repeal of the ACA individual insurance mandate, and Ms. Collins only voted for the bill once she secured a guarantee from Senate leaders they would pass the Alexander-Murray healthcare proposal as well as a reinsurance proposal.
