Listed below are five things you need to know about the transition.
1. California Proton Treatment Center opened the Scripps Proton Therapy Center in 2014, with Scripps Clinic Medical Group contracted as a service provider without having an ownership interest.
2. California Proton Therapy Center will now own and operate the facility under that name, and will contract Proton Doctors Professional Corporation as their clinical partner.
3. All current patients and patients who start proton therapy during the transition will experience no interruptions in their care.
4. The change in ownership was the result of California Proton Treatment Center filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
5. “It’s important to note that this is a business decision being made by the new owners. I’m proud of the role we played in bringing proton therapy to San Diego,” wrote Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder in a memo to Scripps employees. “Our physicians and staff helped to build and grow an incredible program that has provided care for more than 1,400 adults and children from this region, across the country and around the world.”
