Saint Alphonsus Health System has eliminated the Eastern Oregon administrator position at its Baker City hospital, the Baker City Herald reported Aug. 27.
The role was held by Tony Swart, who was hired in 2025. “After a careful and thoughtful discernment, we made the difficult decision to eliminate the Eastern Oregon Administrator position held by Tony Swart,” Andrew Whelan, a spokesperson for Saint Alphonsus, told the newspaper. “We are grateful to Tony’s many years of service and contributions to our mission.”
Saint Alphonsus created the administrator position last year as a local leadership role focused on day-to-day operations at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center-Baker City, a critical access hospital. Dina Ellwanger, BSN, RN, president of Saint Alphonsus Medical Centers-Eastern Oregon, which also includes the system’s hospital in Ontario, Ore., is the senior executive over the site and continues to provide executive leadership in Baker City, Mr. Whelan told the Herald.
Megan Boyle, DNP, RN, the hospital’s associate chief nursing officer, has taken on the role of vice president of operations to expand her leadership responsibilities and strengthen local decision-making at the facility, Mr. Whelan said. Ms. Boyle assumed the operations role in August and continues to serve as associate chief nursing officer, according to her LinkedIn profile. She joined the hospital as associate chief nursing officer in October 2024.
Mr. Swart had worked for Saint Alphonsus since 2007, according to the report.
