Romney Could Win Nomination Despite Massachusetts Reform Role

Interviews with GOP leaders in New Hampshire show Mitt Romney could still win the Republican nomination, despite having signed healthcare reforms in Massachusetts similar to the federal reforms, according to a report by Politico.

Mr. Romney has revamped his message on his role in the Massachusetts reform law. In a recent speech in this early-primary state, he said while the Massachusetts law “wasn’t perfect,” it wasn’t a federal action that dictated to other states.

“These were Massachusetts problems that they were addressing,” he said. “It wasn’t trying to force a one-size-fits-all mandate on all 50 states.”

“He can absolutely get past this,” said John Stephen, the GOP nominee for New Hampshire governor who lost last year. “When you’re a governor, you need to do what’s best for your state.”
