Rep. Cummings requests House subpoena HHS, White House over Price, Conway private jet travel

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., sent a letter Wednesday to Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, to request the committee subpoena HHS and the White House over questionable private jet travel by former HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, and presidential advisor Kellyanne Conway.

The oversight committee is already investigating Dr. Price's use of private jets — which led to his September resignation — but issuing subpoenas would force HHS and the White House to produce all documents requested as part of the investigation.

The committee is also interested in finding out how many trips Ms. Conway was a part of and why she has not been forced to reimburse the cost of travel like Dr. Price was.

The committee has made two additional document requests following its initial investigation, but Mr. Cummings added the documents it received are so heavily redacted they include no pertinent information. The subpoena would finally give the committee the information it needs to conduct a thorough investigation of the matter, he argued.

Mr. Cummings said he also wants to see a copy of the check Dr. Price alleges he wrote to reimburse the costs of his travel, which there is no actual record of.
