Two weeks ago, the local healthcare authority announced its search for a buyer for the financially ailing hospital. In a press release, the authority made clear its intention to shut down the hospital if a buyer was not found within 30 days. It was later made known that the hospital could not continue operating and was closed down before the 30-day bidding process ended.
The following day, patients were admitted to other surrounding hospitals. Hospital staff members were not notified by administrators or other senior-level management employees, according to the news report. The hospital instead directed employees to the Alabama Career Center through a link on the Randolph Medical Center’s website.
Mayor Mike Fisher has invited residents to attend the next hospital authority meeting for any further questions.
