The process will begin in Jan. 2011 when the trauma centers of Lakewood (Ohio) Hospital and Huron Hospital in East Cleveland, Ohio, are closed and consolidated into Fairview Hospital in Cleveland and Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, respectively.
Cleveland’s four level II centers saw about 2,000 patients annually, according to a Plain Dealer report. Still, four centers were too many for the area’s population, according to a Cleveland Clinic executive cited in the report.
