President Barack Obama will meet with the Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald at the VA hospital in Phoenix Friday to discuss improvement efforts, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The president and Mr. McDonald will also meet with former service members, VA employees, representatives from veterans’ groups and elected officials to identify the troubles the Phoenix hospital is facing and what needs to be done to mitigate those problems.

Although the VA has dealt with numerous issues in recent months — a data breach, mismanaged hospital construction projects and an employee demonstration — the Phoenix VA hospital gained national scrutiny as the center of a nationwide scandal over long patient wait times and scheduling problems.

The visit Friday marks the president’s first to the VA hospital since the scandal broke last year, according to the report.
